Fiji Airways is reportedly interesting in self-handling and carrying out its own catering at Nadi International Airport, a report claims.

The Fiji Sun says the disclosure was made by a senior minister during a session at Parliament of the Republic Fiji .

The airline’s ground handling is currently done by Air Terminal Services, which has done it for the last 35 years.

Attorney General and Minister responsible for civil aviation Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum is quoted by the publisher as saying self handling and catering would boost security.

He said there was a high number of thefts from suitcases by ground handling staff and “sweeps” of workers’ lockers had found a number of items that had been stolen from passengers.
