Southwest Airlines to start Hawaii routes

Southwest Airlines will start a new daily route to Hawaii on 17 March this year with an inaugural flight from Oakland International Airport to Daniel K. Inouye International Airport in Honolulu, Oahu.

This service will then become twice daily from 24 March before the carrier then starts daily services from Oakland to Kahului Airport, Maui on 7 April before going double-daily from 10 April.

In the subsequent weeks, it will start an additional daily services from Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International Airport to Honolulu on 5 May and to Kahului on 26 May.

Southwest will also operate its first inter-island service within Hawaii between Honolulu and Kahului, four times daily in each direction, beginning 28 April, followed by service between Honolulu and Ellison Onizuka International Airport at Keahole on Hawaii Island, four times daily in each direction, beginning 12 May.

The additional inter-island service will make possible connecting service between Kona and both Oakland and San Jose.

Additional service details, including plans for previously announced gateways of San Diego and Sacramento, and for Lihue, on Kauai, will be announced in the coming weeks.
