Swissport has successfully finished a week-long complex operation to support three of the globe’s biggest sporting occasions in the last week.
The events saw the aviation services company handle 126 additional aircraft movements and nearly 14,000 extra passengers Liverpool John Lennon Airport, London Luton Airport and London Stansted Airport.
Swissport was chosen by partners to support the Europa League Final in Baku on 29 May, heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua’s 1 June fight in New York’s Madison Square Gardens, and the Champion’s League Final in Madrid on 1 June.
This included thousands of committed football fans making the trip to support their team, alongside some of the principal sportspeople themselves, including the entire Liverpool FC team and entourage of Joshua.
Swissport UK and Ireland chief operating officer, Darren Harding said: “This is a huge success for Swissport and is testament to the successful relationships we have built with a number of our partners.
“This wouldn’t have been possible without the hard work and dedication of our teams who mobilised additional ground handling equipment and personnel from other airports to handle the airlifts.
“We are immensely proud of all the pre-planning, logistical support and operations on the day that allowed sports fans across Europe to support their teams in person. We look forward to supporting more fans and sportspeople alike in the future.”
Director of sports options, Mile Saward added: “Swissport’s hard work, support and assistance in helping to handle our flights to and from Madrid on Saturday was a huge success. These types of events are incredibly important to the committed fans and players involved and we are very happy with the outcome. Here’s to another successful football season next year.”
