During the aviation winter season beginning on 27 October, two new destinations will be added to the 200 destinations currently served from Brussels Airport: Essaouira and Tromsø. Six new routes are also scheduled: Valencia, Seville, Catania, Kraków, Ljubljana and Berlin.
Traditionally, the winter season in aviation begins on the eve of the autumn half-term holiday. Large numbers of travellers, going on holidays, city breaks and business trips will be choosing Brussels Airport to reach their destinations. Sun or snow? Beach or mountains? Town or countryside? Passengers have a vast choice of more than 200 destinations. This choice will get even bigger this winter with the addition of two new destinations and six new routes.
The new destinations are Essaouira (Morocco) and Tromsø (Norway). With its twiceweekly service to Essaouira, Ryanair is not only adding a new destination to its own offer but also to the network served from Brussels Airport. SAS on the other hand is catering for the winter sports fans, with a daily flight in January and February to Tromsø.
We would also like to remind you that since September, following the collapse of flybmi, Loganair has taken over ten weekly flights to the East Midlands, while Brussels Airlines has taken over the daily flight to Bristol (which will be increased to two flights a day this winter) and Hanover. In short, three destinations in the Brussels Airport route network that have been served again for several weeks now.
Six new routes are also scheduled. Ryanair will be taking off for southern Europe, more precisely Seville (four times a week) and Catania (twice a week) from November. The low-cost carrier will also be offering passengers the opportunity to visit Kraków four times a week. EasyJet will be operating daily flights to Berlin Tegel, again coinciding with the start of the winter season.
To celebrate the launch of Emirates Delivers, Emirates SkyCargo is also offering a limited-time 15% discount on shipping charges valid until 30 November 2019.
Emirates SkyCargo offers cargo capacity on Emirates’ fleet of over 265 modern wide-body aircraft including 12 freighters- 11 Boeing 777-Fs and one B747F. The carrier operates to 13 destinations in the US, offering cargo capacity on over 100 weekly flights including scheduled freighter services to destinations including Columbus, Chicago, Houston and New York.
The air cargo carrier operates two state of the art cargo terminals at its hub in Dubai and has developed specialised air transportation products for specific industry verticals. Emirates SkyCargo is a key facilitator of global trade and during the Financial Year 2018/19, the air cargo carrier transported over 2.7 million tonnes of cargo across its global network of over 155 destinations spread over six continents through its hub in Dubai.
Brussels Airlines will also be serving two new routes. From 4 November, it will be flying to Ljubljana six times a week, taking over the route that was operated until the end of September by Adria Airways, that unfortunately went bankrupt. From February 2020, it will also be offering flights to Valencia four times a week.
Increased capacity and frequency
Several airlines have also increased the capacity on their routes, either by using larger planes or by increasing the frequency of their flights.
Europe – from November, Brussels Airlines will be offering a fourth daily flight to Birmingham.
Asia – Thai Airways International will offer a sixth weekly flight to Bangkok while Hainan Airlines will be making a third weekly flight to Shenzhen.
America – Delta Air Lines is increasing the capacity of flights to Atlanta and New York by moving up from the B767–300ER to the B767–400ER (25 extra seats). Air Canada will be replacing its B787-8 to Montreal with a B787-9 (47 extra seats).
Africa – TUI fly will be operating a second weekly flight to Mombasa and Zanzibar, while Ethiopian Airlines will be offering daily direct flights to Addis Ababa (previously four/week).
